Define the terms

  1. Habitat- The areas in which an animal naturally lives is called habitat.

  2. Aquatic animals- Animals that live in water for most of the time of their life are called aquatic animals.

  3. Terrestrial animals- Animals that live on land are called terrestrial animals.

  4. Amphibians- Animals living both on land and water are called amphibians.

  5. Blubber- A layer of fat under the skin of animals that helps them to keep warm is called blubber.

Ans. Special features of animals that help them to live successfully in a particular environment is called adaptation.

  1. What is migration?

Ans. Seasonal movement of animals from one region to another in order to escape unfavorable conditions is called migration.

Ans. The state of animals where they go into deep sleep to save themselves from severe winters to survive without eating much is called hibernation.

Ans. The two types of aquatic habitats are- Oceans and Freshwater habitats.

Ans. 80% of terrestrial animals live in forests.

Ans. The temperature on the mountain tops is very low and the environment does not support life. So animals like black bears live in the lower part of the mountains.

  1. How does a camel survive in the desert?

Ans. Camels have humps to store water. They also have thick hair that helps to protect them from the intense heat.

  1. Lizards eat more than usual during the autumn season.

Ans. Because lizards store extra food as fat to use during winters when they go under hibernation.

  1. Flamingo migrate to India when it is winter in their habitat.

Ans. As India is home for many migratory birds because its weather conditions are suitable for them, flamingos also  migrate to India when it is winter in their habitat.
